Position Overview
The Security Officer helps establish, promote and maintain hospital security and property protection programs for all facilities within the Singing River Health System. He/She patrols the facility to prevent fire, theft and vandalism; and responds to the security needs of Singing River Health System personnel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, or equivalent, required.
- N/A for licenses.
- Successfully complete the SRHS Healthcare Security Training.
- Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience required in the field of law enforcement or security.
Requirements
- Confident, even-tempered, tolerant, and knowledgeable of law enforcement procedures and techniques.
- A neat appearance.
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work quickly and effectively in difficult situations.
- Respect for the rights, property and privacy of others.
- Interrelate well with all hospital departments (all levels of supervision and management) and employees, patients, visitors, medical staff members, the public and local law enforcement agencies.
- Investigate incidents or unusual occurrences, provide appropriate follow up and documentation, and testify in a court of law when requested to do so by subpoena.
Physical Demands
- Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area.
- Exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
- Close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.
- Active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue.
- Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

- Possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
- Apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
