Responsibilities

• Enforce Massachusetts State Laws
• Advise suspects of their constitutional rights
• Investigate all crimes, including theft, assault, battery, sexual assault, motor vehicle accidents, and other related incidents
• Control crowds as necessary
• Provide emergency medical assistance
• Participate in community policing initiatives
• Perform related duties such as operating equipment, writing reports, and assisting in fire-fighting operations

Requirements

• Successfully completed a recognized Police Academy training program (POST certified)
• Class A license to carry firearm (M.G.L. c.140, section 131)
• Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
• Knowledge of police procedures and practices, the law of arrest, and criminal procedures
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare written reports
• Physical stamina and endurance to meet the requirements of Chapter 253 of the Acts of 2020
• Possession and maintenance of first aid and CPR certificates
• Completion of a Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) -approved physical and psychological fitness evaluation
• Ability to speak a language in addition to English (preferred)

Qualifications

• At least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in a governmental police force or law enforcement work
• Completion of a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC)-approved basic training program
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background check, including CORI and SORI

Biweekly salary: Campus Police Officer I - $2,224.42, Grade 16
To be promoted to Grade 17 after satisfactory completion of Police Academy training. Candidates who have already completed the Police Academy training will start at a Campus Police Officer II - $2,576.26, Grade 17, Step 4.
