Schedule

Shift work. Must be able to work overnights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts (12+ hours), and mandatory overtime. Travel may be required.

Police Officers enforce laws, regulations, and university policies while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment through patrols on foot or in a patrol vehicle, emergency response, and the investigation of crimes and traffic incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reports
  • Collect and preserve evidence
  • Serve warrants
  • Testify in court
  • Provide security for special events
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Perform traffic and parking enforcement
  • Conduct building security checks
  • Report suspicious or hazardous activity
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA)
  • Perform armed courier duties

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License upon hire
  • Certified as a Peace Officer by the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) within 6 months of hire
  • Obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification through the department
  • Pass medical exam and physical fitness test
  • Pass standardized written aptitude test, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and California Psychological Inventory (CPI) psychometric tests
  • 21 years of age or older by hire date
  • No felony convictions, prior protective orders, domestic violence convictions, or other crimes of a violent nature
  • Not currently subject to an order of CLEET, or other state certifying authority, revoking, suspending, or accepting a voluntary surrender of peace officer certification
  • No criminal charges pending in any state, tribal, or federal court
  • Not participating in a deferred sentence for a crime of moral turpitude
  • Successfully complete OUPD initial training program

Department Preferences

  • 24+ months public safety, law enforcement, military experience, or Collegiate Officers Program graduate
  • Bilingual

Special Indications

Hiring contingent upon background check, driver's license check, Post Offer Employment Testing (POET), successful completion of police background check (including polygraph exam), and fingerprint clearance from FBI and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
