CAMPUS POLICE OFFICER

10-month contract, non-certified, non-exempt position. Two full-time, permanent openings available.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM or 12:00 PM–9:00 PM
• Weekends and holidays off
• On-call rotation every 8–10 weeks
• Some evening coverage for extracurricular activities and sporting events

Qualifications

• Valid Oklahoma driver’s license
• At least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or GED
• CLEET Certification required
• No felony convictions
• Must pass background check and MMPI
• Must complete the Field Training Officer Program
• High principles, ethics, and moral character
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work in a school setting
• Must qualify yearly with duty weapon

Responsibilities

• Maintain order, respond to emergencies, protect people and property, enforce criminal laws, and promote good community relations
• Prepare reports documenting incidents and activities
• Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious persons, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity
• Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts
• Determine if criminal acts or statute violations occurred
• Render first aid to accident victims and others with physical injuries
• Provide security for extracurricular activities and sporting events
• Cooperate with other law enforcement officials
• Perform general police duties: deterring and preventing unlawful behavior, issuing citations, serving warrants, apprehending offenders, making arrests, preserving crime scenes, investigating crimes, conducting surveillance, and testifying in court
• Patrol buildings, grounds, and facilities to detect criminal or suspicious activity and violations of laws, regulations, policies, and rules
• Watch for unusual conditions, fire hazards, and safety hazards
• Respond to service requests from students, faculty, and others on campus
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisors

Work Environment

The work of a police officer is inherently risky. While most duties involve developing positive relationships with students, officers may face threatening situations when responding to school safety concerns. Work occurs both inside and outside school buildings and includes coverage of some evening extracurricular activities.
