Job Duties

The Campus Police Officer will ensure the safety of the campus community by enforcing Mississippi state laws and campus rules and regulations, using appropriate procedures. Complete and submit all required reports, logs and forms. Report safety hazards found on campus to appropriate personnel. Perform public relations tasks such as providing directions to visitors and assisting the campus community whenever possible. Maintain the motor pool. Lock /unlock doors as required and ensure security of campus buildings. Check buildings using the Proxi Pen Point System. Turn security lighting on/off as required. Assist in the supervision of student activities when requested by appropriate administrators. Prepare all necessary evidence for Campus Judicial hearings and/or criminal court. Investigate campus crimes and incidents. Monitor and enforce all traffic and parking regulations. Inform Chief of Police and appropriate administrators of major campus incidents daily or as needed. Issue parking decals and student ID's to students. Cooperate with and assist the maintenance department. Make bank deposits as needed. Maintain a good working relationship with other law enforcement and emergency response agencies. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police and Dean of Business Services.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • (M1) Hold a current Professional Certificate awarded by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training of the State of Mississippi (qualified Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer under the Provisions of Chapter 474, General Laws of Mississippi, 1981).
  • (M2) Ability to perform physically active duties.
  • (M3) Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • (M4) Demonstrated experience in use of computers and related software.
  • (M5) Pass a background investigation.
  • (M6) Complete official college application form, resume, and transcripts.

Desirable Qualifications

  • (D1) Two-years law enforcement experience.
  • (D2) First Aid, CPR, hazardous materials and/or other emergency response training.
  • (D3) Experience in a community college or educational setting.
  • (D4) Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • (D5) Documented investigative training and experience.

About the Role

The Campus Police Officer will report directly to the Chief of Campus Police. The successful candidate will ensure the safety of the campus community by maintaining law and order on campus and enforcing the College rules and regulations and laws of the State of Mississippi. The officer will investigate campus incidents and criminal acts such as larcenies, vandalism, disturbances, as well as respond to all campus emergencies.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $50,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
