About the role
The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is seeking an experienced and motivated Campaign Director to lead the Foundation's health care policy initiative.
Responsibilities
- Leverage strong relationships with lawmakers and their staff to serve as the campaign's chief legislative advocate.
- Schedule and follow through on all meetings and asks, maintaining a consistent tempo of communication and proactively offering the Foundation's resources.
- Meet with key committee staff to help shape interim focus, and work with legislative staff and the policy team to establish potential interim charges.
- Interface and build relationships with agency staff, and other actors in the policymaking and implementation chain, as appropriate.
- Work intimately with the research team to deeply understand public policy issues in health care, and hold the team accountable to deliver timely research that informs and substantiates the campaign's policy priorities.
- Track relevant regulatory proceedings and agency dockets, identify opportunities for the campaign to engage, and communicate associated deadlines.
- Determine which priorities require legislative action and which are best advanced through regulatory channels, in partnership with the policy team.
- Create and grow relationships with key coalition partners and collaborate with them on shared legislative goals.
- Collaborate with and monitor the communications, podcast, and events functions to hold them to a high standard of quality and output, with all content contributing to overarching campaign goals.
- Partner with the communications team to establish a messaging strategy that advances the mission, including clear expectations for deliverables and frequency.
- Coordinate closely with policy and Foundation leadership to ensure the campaign is fully utilized during session and the interim, and that its priorities are reflected in the Foundation's agenda.
- Maintain accountability with the policy director to keep roles, responsibilities, and expectations current as the campaign evolves and as new expectations are justified.
- Maintain accountability trackers for modeling projects and other key work, coordinate with partner organizations to balance state and federal priorities, and drive efficiency, focus, and cohesion across the policy team.
Qualifications
- Grit, tenacity, and the ability to thrive amidst uncertainty.
- Demonstrated experience in public policy, government relations, legislative affairs, or campaign management, ideally within Texas politics and policy.
- Preference for a candidate that understands the healthcare market—in Texas and federally—and can distill healthcare policy talking points to lay audiences.
- Established relationships with — or the proven ability to build relationships with — lawmakers, legislative staff, and coalition partners.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to hold multiple teams and workstreams accountable to deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to TPPF's mission and to advancing conservative principles and free-market solutions.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
