About the role
The League for People with Disabilities is seeking an energetic, dependable, and compassionate Part-Time Seasonal Kitchen Assistant to support meal preparation and food service operations within our inclusive camp program. This position plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and positive dining experience for children and adults with disabilities participating in camp activities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Aid in preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages for campers and staff.
- Support kitchen staff with food prep including washing, cutting, portioning, and organizing ingredients.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, counters, dining areas, and food storage spaces.
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
- Help monitor and organize food inventory, supplies, and storage areas.
- Follow all food safety, allergy awareness, and sanitation procedures.
- Assist with accommodating participant dietary restrictions and special meal requests.
- Ensure dining spaces remain welcoming, safe, and inclusive for all campers.
- Support setup and breakdown of meal service areas.
- Remove trash and recycling and maintain overall kitchen cleanliness.
- Work collaboratively with camp staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with campers, families, and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support camp operations.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous kitchen, food service, cafeteria, camp, or hospitality experience is preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain sanitation standards.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.
- Demonstrate patience, compassion, and professionalism.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout kitchen and dining areas.
- Ability to work in warm kitchen environments.
