About the role

The League for People with Disabilities is seeking an energetic, dependable, and compassionate Part-Time Seasonal Kitchen Assistant to support meal preparation and food service operations within our inclusive camp program. This position plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and positive dining experience for children and adults with disabilities participating in camp activities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Aid in preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages for campers and staff.
  • Support kitchen staff with food prep including washing, cutting, portioning, and organizing ingredients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, counters, dining areas, and food storage spaces.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Help monitor and organize food inventory, supplies, and storage areas.
  • Follow all food safety, allergy awareness, and sanitation procedures.
  • Assist with accommodating participant dietary restrictions and special meal requests.
  • Ensure dining spaces remain welcoming, safe, and inclusive for all campers.
  • Support setup and breakdown of meal service areas.
  • Remove trash and recycling and maintain overall kitchen cleanliness.
  • Work collaboratively with camp staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with campers, families, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support camp operations.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous kitchen, food service, cafeteria, camp, or hospitality experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain sanitation standards.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.
  • Demonstrate patience, compassion, and professionalism.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ability to work in warm kitchen environments.
