Camp Counselor - Part-Time, Alpha - $30,000/year USD
About the role
This role is a full-time opportunity at Alpha Schools, located in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ. The compensation is $30 per hour, 15–30 hours weekly, with an annual salary of $60,000 plus benefits. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (with flexible scheduling within school operating hours).
Responsibilities
- Oversight of student movement between activities (approximately 30% of your time): tracking time, cueing students to transition, and employing positive reinforcement to maintain orderly, punctual movement
- Staging classroom resources ahead of each lesson by collecting materials, arranging them according to the activity outline, and verifying setup aligns with the Guide's specifications before teaching starts
- Sustaining student involvement during structured sessions (approximately 40% of your time) by observing participation, catching disengagement early, and redirecting students using Alpha's approved classroom management methods without disrupting instruction
Requirements
- Available to work on-site at our Scottsdale campus
- Commit to at least 10 hours weekly, with complete flexibility to select your hours during school operation times (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM)
- Full-time role available
- Background working with children ages 5–14 in structured environments (school, camp, daycare, tutoring, or coaching)
- Capacity to manage people, materials, and tasks efficiently and promptly
- Comfortable with children and skilled at redirecting behavior through positive encouragement
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Direct group leadership experience with active children (camp counselor, classroom assistant, paraprofessional, youth sports instructor, or after-school program coordinator)
- Familiarity with mastery-based, competency-driven, or highly structured educational models (Montessori, project-based learning, or comparable approaches)
- Demonstrated ability to maintain group schedules through positive redirection without escalating to adult authority
