Duties And Responsibilities

• Follow the planned activities and work in tandem with the Scranton Police Department overseeing classroom and outdoor activities or sports.
• Effectively develop a positive rapport with campers and parents.
• Encourage campers to help support their social and emotional growth.
• Motivate campers with effective communication.
• Educate campers through games and explorations.
• Escort and oversee children when they go off site for any activities.
• Set up and maintain any equipment.
• Appropriately address student behavioral issues and other challenges that may arise in order to maintain a safe environment and a sense of calm in such situations.
• Know and adhere to site specific safety standards.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and notify the supervisor of any hazardous issues.
• Perform other projects, initiatives, and other duties as needed and assigned.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older
• High School Diploma (Bachelor’s degree Preferred)
• Must be available all four weeks of camp
• Proven experience as Camp Counselor, teacher, or similar role working with children.
• Familiarity with summer camp activities, challenges.
• Patient, reliable and flexible if weather impacts outdoor activities.
• Organizational and communication skills.
• A love for children.
• Energetic and positive personality.
• Able to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow sports activities).
• First Aid- and CPR-certified preferred.
