Camp Counselor- Camp Colonie (Temporary)
What You'll Do
Camp Colonie is a unique outdoor summer school and recreational program for children with disabilities. Applicants should have strong communication skills, a desire to work outdoors with children, and a willingness to work closely as part of a team to support the students and campers.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Greet children at the entrance to the program and walk with them to class, assisting where necessary to settle campers in.
- Sit with children and engage them in activities, participating in songs, cleaning up, and providing prompts as needed.
- Engage children in conversations during meal times to reinforce social skills.
- Absorb and maintain "good hygiene" (hand washing) during bathroom times.
- Provide proper supervision during pool time as mandated by the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Promote socialization through small group activities chosen by the children.
- Provide ample praise to reinforce positive behaviors and involvement.
- Read and become familiar with the child's IEP and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), if applicable.
- Act as a member of the teaching team, assisting other staff and children as needed.
You're a Great Fit for This Role If You Have:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- The ability to obtain or become CPR/First Aid certified.
- Previous camping experience (though not required).
- Flexibility, a desire to work outdoors, and experience with children.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must possess a New York State Student Employment Certificate if under 18 years old.
- Experience with recreational activities, music, songs, skits, crafts, archery.
Compensation
$16.00-17.00/hr.
