Camp Counselor

About the role

The Camp Counselor is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and supervision of campers. Duties include planning and implementing activities, maintaining positive relationships, organizing camp equipment, and adhering to YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and camp-wide.
• Aids in the planning and implementation of activities according to the camp schedule.
• Maintains positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
• Organizes and maintains camp equipment, supplies, and property.
• Participates in all aspects of the day camp schedule as assigned.
• Maintains camp records including accident & incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance documents, etc.
• Maintains expectations of YMCA requirements and helps others do the same.
• Collaborates with the Head Counselor for assigned group.
• Ensures compliance with all YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old or have prior experience in working with children in a camp environment.
• Ability to effectively use technology for programmatic needs.
• Attends all required pre-camp and camp season trainings and meetings as scheduled.
• Obtains and maintains all new hire certifications and trainings before the first day of camp.
