Camp Behavior and Support Coordinator

BASIC PURPOSE

To collaborate with the Camp Director, DYS, Divisional PTM Coordinator, and appropriate staff regarding notices of concern, incident reports, and related reporting procedures, including communication with local authorities and Child Protective Services when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the accurate documentation and follow-through of child and staff safety concerns, in collaboration with the Camp Director, DYS, Divisional PTM Coordinator, and appropriate staff to ensure alignment with internal and external reporting procedures.
  • Ensures that all reports are handled appropriately and in a confidential manner.
  • Partner with the Divisional PTM Coordinator to support counselors and reporting staff in understanding the reporting process and accurately completing required documentation.
  • Ensure all reports are completed from start to finish.
  • Ensure all Protect the Mission procedures are being followed appropriately.
  • When necessary, work with reporting staff member to contact parent(s) about an incident regarding their child’s wellbeing.
  • Communicate with the Camp Director and DYS regarding any situations where a child’s safety is at risk or cannot be adequately ensured at camp.
  • Take all staff or campers to local doctor’s office, the Emergency Room, or Urgent Care when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Camp Nurse with duties when needed if campers are impacted by both emotional and physical wellbeing to ensure camper success and guardian communication when necessary.
  • Provide direct support for campers experiencing behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
  • Aid staff in implementing developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of behavioral concerns, interventions, communication with guardians, and follow-up actions.
  • Complete any additional administrative and assistive duties as directed by the Camp Director & DYS.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • At Least 2 Years of experience in child development.
  • Background and experience in child safety.
  • Knowledge and Experience in The Salvation Army general policies and Protecting the Mission Policies.
  • PREFERRED: Previous camping experience either as a camper or as a staff member.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee will be required to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  • The employee:
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver License
  • Complete TSA driver safety course.
