About the role

The City of Farmington Hills offers half-day and full-day summer camps across multiple locations, engaging over 500 campers weekly in various activities like sports, visual arts, music, theatre, dance, nature, and field trips.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing diverse and engaging camp programs aligned with the City's mission and values.
  • Support Camp Specialists in facilitating age-appropriate theatre-based lesson plans, fostering learning and fun through games, team-building exercises, and group discussions.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Aid in coaching camp aides, Counselors in Training, and Junior Counselors.
  • Foster positive relationships and encourage camaraderie and teamwork with staff and campers.
  • Communicate effectively with peers to ensure a seamless camp experience.
  • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to create a secure, healthy, and inclusive camp environment.
  • Monitor camper well-being, address concerns promptly, and collaborate with necessary staff.
  • Aid with camp check-in and check-out each day.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with campers, families, and fellow staff.
  • Promptly report incidents, concerns, or noteworthy achievements to supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School graduate. Some college preferred, but not required.
  • College students majoring in education, theatre, or related fields encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with and/or supervising children preferred.
  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in Dance, Music, or Visual Arts is a plus.
  • Must be 16 years old.
  • Proof of First Aid and CPR certification required upon hire.
  • Strong situational awareness, self-motivation, teamwork, organizational, and communication skills required.

Qualifications

  • Physical demands include standing, sitting, kneeling, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and using hands or fingers to handle objects, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Pay

$13.50-16.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Schedule
