About the role
The Sr Transportation Planner plays a crucial role in bridging long-range planning documents and project initiation to drive Caltrans' climate and equity goals. They are responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating the Caltrans System Investment Strategy (CSIS), which guides statewide transportation investment decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement CSIS, ensuring alignment with climate and equity goals.
- Conduct external outreach and internal coordination to support CSIS implementation.
- Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and senior management.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to integrate CSIS into broader transportation planning efforts.
- Support project initiation and ensure compliance with state and federal funding requirements.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or related field.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation planning, preferably with a focus on climate change adaptation and equity.
- Experience with state and federal transportation funding programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software.
Qualifications

- Experience with climate modeling and analysis.
- Knowledge of equity principles and practices in transportation planning.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and public participation.
- Experience with project management tools and methodologies.

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $8,678.00 – $10,783.00 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
