About the role
Under the direction of the Caltrans Maintenance Manager II, the Vegetation Management Coordinator (VMC) provides coordination, field oversight, and program support for vegetation management and control activities throughout the district. The incumbent coordinates with internal and external partners to ensure vegetation management activities, annual PG&E vegetation permit work, and contractor operations comply with applicable environmental, safety, and right-of-way requirements. The position serves as a key liaison between field maintenance crews, contractors, the Vegetation Management Programs, Environmental, Maintenance Managers, and Right of Way to ensure vegetation management activities are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with Department standards.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and provide field oversight for vegetation management and control activities.
- Support vegetation management program activities district-wide.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and right-of-way requirements for vegetation management, PG&E vegetation permit work, and contractor operations.
- Serve as liaison between field maintenance crews, contractors, Vegetation Management Programs, Environmental, Maintenance Managers, and Right of Way.
- Ensure vegetation management activities are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with Department standards.
Requirements
- Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) required; provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions on application.
- Background investigation clearance required prior to hire.
- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview/appointment.
- If basing eligibility on education, include unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification; unofficial, original, or official sealed transcripts accepted and may be required upon appointment.
- Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency evaluation report from NACES or AICE.
Qualifications
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent exam. For those without current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) or new to state civil service employment, you must be on the state examination list. Pay
$7,306.00 - $9,068.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Schedule
Permanent, full-time position. In-office work location in Calaveras County.
