About the role
We are seeking a dependable Telephone Operator / Communications Specialist to support a busy healthcare organization in Manhattan by managing incoming calls, emergency notifications, paging systems, and after-hours communications.
This is an outstanding opportunity for candidates with experience in hospital switchboards, telephone operations, call centers, reception, dispatch, or customer service.
Responsibilities
- Operate the AMCOM telephone operator workstation to answer, route, and place internal and external calls.
- Initiate overhead, radio, and computer paging accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain and update on-call schedules within the AMCOM system.
- Process physician answering service messages for evening, overnight, and weekend staff.
- Respond to emergency communications including medical emergencies, fire alerts, bomb threats, and disaster notifications.
- Follow emergency notification procedures and document all emergency events.
- Assist with pager programming, testing, troubleshooting, and battery replacement.
- Receive and process after-hours telecommunications trouble calls.
- Perform administrative duties including message delivery, data entry, inventory support, and related clerical tasks.
- Respond to TTY communications for hearing-impaired callers when necessary.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience as a telephone operator, hospital switchboard operator, call center representative, receptionist, dispatcher, or in healthcare communications is preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent computer, multitasking, and data entry abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during emergency situations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
