Calibration Technician Position

Planning & Scheduling: Plans sequence of testing and calibration program for measuring and control instruments according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications. Provides for long-range as well as short-range planning. Identifies and obtains (requisitions, orders, kits as appropriate and in keeping with procedures) required materials, entering material needs on the work order. Determines if critical items are in stock by verifying availability with stores and reserving same. Maintains close contact with other planners to ensure coordination of complex multi-skill field and shop jobs. Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed, from files or other sources. Makes any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work order. Verifies the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for its execution. Recommends devices to be included in preventive maintenance programs. Schedules preventive maintenance and other planned work in coordination with production and maintenance team leaders. Issues approved schedules together with relevant work orders and other planning documents to the Operations Support Team Leader for inclusion with the master Work Order Schedule. Discusses 'planning packages' as necessary with special instructions or considerations to be observed in the execution of the jobs and reviews new jobs coming up in the future. Maintains a list of planned work orders requiring equipment to be down, so that some or all can be performed in the event of an unscheduled downtime.

  • Collect and organize technical data from equipment manufacturers, equipment users, and engineering personnel.
  • Aid with identification, purchase, and organization of spare parts.
  • Proficiently train technicians and operation personnel.
  • Confer with engineers, team leaders, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Reviews with engineering those work orders requiring engineering design.
  • Organize and complete assigned work.
  • Represent instrumentation area interests at interdepartmental meetings.
  • Suggests training programs and other IT related skills development courses.
  • Communicates daily activities with management, peers and customers across all shifts.
  • Keeps the maintenance manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations and seeks advice on matters outside of the CT's knowledge or authority.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment, as required.
  • Makes recommendations for system improvement.
  • Works with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition.
  • Analyzes and converts test data, using mathematical formulas, and reports results and proposed modifications.
  • Sets up test equipment and conducts tests on performance and reliability of mechanical, structural, or electromechanical equipment.
  • Consults with and advises process operators.
  • Does risk assessments.
  • Ensures the safety needs are given a top priority in work planning and scheduling.
  • Recommends additions to storeroom stock.

Requirements, Qualifications And Selection Criteria

  • Expertise on fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and systems.
  • Knowledge in ISA standards and practices for instrumentation.
  • Knowledge in PID control theories and techniques.
  • Knowledge in relay ladder logic and programmable controllers.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer-aided manufacturing automation.
  • Proficiently read and interpret engineering documents and to produce shop schematics.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of progressive experience in manufacturing process control instrumentation or closely related jobs with a proven performance record highly desirable.
  • Completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronic (2-year curriculum at a technical school, or an AA/AS Degree in a related science or engineering major plus substantial relevant on-the-job training a plus.
