About the role
The Calibration Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test and measurement instruments used across various industries. This position requires a strong foundation in electronics and engineering, coupled with hands-on experience in calibrating and repairing complex test equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform precision calibrations of electrical, mechanical, and optical test instruments in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 standards.
- Diagnose and calibrate electrical and optical test instruments such as power analyzers, data acquisition, oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, and optical time domain reflectometers.
- Maintain detailed documentation and support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all equipment meets required accuracy and performance specifications while maintaining detailed documentation and supporting quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding repair status, turn-around times, and technical findings.
- Support internal inquiries related to optical product performance, repair status, or calibration questions.
- Recommend improvements to calibration and repair workflows, procedures, or tools.
- Aid in the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), repair guides, and troubleshooting documents.
- Perform other calibration laboratory and logistics-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or relevant on-the-job training.
- 2+ years of experience in calibration and/or repair of electronic and optical test equipment.
- Familiarity with electrical and fiber optic components, test procedures, and safety practices.
- Proficiency with PC-based tools, especially those used for calibration (e.g., MET/TEAM).
- High preference for working knowledge of calibration standards and uncertainty analysis (ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540.3).
- Additional experience in repairing electrical and optical instruments is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to read schematics and technical manuals.
- Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform repetitive tasks with precision.
