About the Role

I've always known that teaching was the profession for me, inspired by several teachers in my family. As a lifelong learner who loves children, I enjoy discovering how each child learns, particularly those with diverse strengths and areas for growth. I am passionate about Universal Design for Learning—creating an inclusive environment where all children can thrive.

What I Find Rewarding

Teaching gives me an outlet for creativity. Designing instruction, adapting to children's unique challenges, and reflecting on my methods is deeply fulfilling. The most rewarding moments are when a child masters a concept and can apply it independently. I also cherish when former students reach out to share updates about their lives, knowing I’ve had a lasting impact.

Engaging Students

I connect with students by personalizing learning—using books tied to their interests and culture, incorporating their names into passages, and designing interactive activities. Understanding child development helps me create appropriately challenging and engaging lessons.

I also love spending time with my family, especially my children, who remind me to appreciate everyday beauty.

What I Hope Students Take Away

I hope students leave my class knowing that with hard work and the right strategies, they can achieve anything. Most of all, I want them to remember that I believed in them.

Inspiration

My favorite quote is from Paulo Freire: "The teacher is, of course, an artist, but being an artist doesn't mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves."

• McDonogh's cross-country course: A peaceful route through mature trees, corn fields, and the edge of campus.
• Shell Road, especially in October.
