CAH - BILLING CLERK

About the role

A Billing Clerk is responsible for performing all functions required in preparing third-party claim forms for submission, both electronically and by paper. Familiar with basic claim submission rules and forms. Perform all necessary follow-up procedures to obtain proper payment from third parties. Answer all inquiries pertaining to billing functions. Provides general assistance and support to the business office, including complete patient account representation in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
  • Apply knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Perform basic data entry with 10-key proficiency
  • Organize and report accurate and complete information
  • Maintain confidentiality and composure in stressful situations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and physicians
  • Prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions
  • Communicate effectively in person and on the phone
  • Maintain consistency and timeliness in attendance

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years of patient account experience
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

Qualifications

  • Hospital or medical office experience (preferred)
  • Medical Billing Certification through an accredited organization (preferred)
  • Proficiency in using a computer
  • Cooperation, flexibility, and ability to assist patients, physicians, and staff
  • Ability to multi-task

Skills

  • Medical billing and claim submission
  • CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Data entry and 10-key proficiency
  • Reading and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
  • Organizing and reporting information accurately
  • Effective communication (in person and on the phone)

Licenses and Certifications

Preferred certifications (one or more of the following):

  • AMBA (American Medical Billing Association)
  • CMRS (Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist)
  • HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association)
  • CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative)

Pay

  • Uncertified: $22.97 - $29.57 per hour
  • Certified: $24.30 - $32.43 per hour

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
