Cafeteria Assistant (6 Hours)/Bus Driver

About the Role

This position serves as both a Cafeteria Assistant and a Bus Driver/Sub Bus Driver for Wayne County Public Schools, assisting in the preparation, sale, and service of food for the child nutrition program while also operating a school bus as required.

Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations relevant to the child nutrition department.
• Assist in the preparation of food and clean/wash dishes and equipment.
• Collect money and ID cards during meals, make reports of lunches and collections, and tabulate paid, free, and reduced-price meal counts.
• Participate in training programs and keep the work area neat and clean.
• Perform related duties as requested by the Principal or Cafeteria Manager.
• Serve as a Bus Driver/Sub Bus Driver for a school bus, maintaining all qualifications and certifications prescribed by the State Board of Education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must maintain appropriate bus driver certification and meet all qualifications prescribed by the State Board of Education.
• Ability to operate food service equipment (dishwasher, food grinder, mixer, meat slicer, range, ovens, refrigerator, freezer).
• Ability to operate a computer, calculator, and make change accurately and rapidly.
• Physical ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force.

Skills

• Functional knowledge of basic principles of food cookery.
• Functional knowledge of food service equipment.
• Ability to follow written recipes and instructions.
• Mental alertness and ability to apply job-relevant knowledge.

Pay

Starting salary: $15.60 per hour (Grade 04C).

Schedule

Ten-month work year.
