About the role
The Cold Prep at The Chesapeake in Newport News, Virginia, is a crucial position responsible for preparing and serving all cold foods and desserts, as well as setting up the salad bar. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that residents, guests, and employees receive the best possible service.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining the operations of the café.
- Attends to the food and beverage needs of our residents, guests, and employees.
- Promptly obtains & prepares orders.
- Maintain high standards of quality food production and portion control in food preparation and serving.
- Follow menus provided, making changes only with the consent of the supervisor.
- Makes, prepares, and serves sandwiches and salads according to café recipes.
- Makes, prepares and serves baked goods, hot cereals, breakfast items and grilled items.
- Follows daily and weekly duties.
- Prepare and serve at the proper time, sufficient quantity of food to meet the service requirement.
- Maintain proper sanitation and safety in food preparation areas.
- Responsible for keeping café area clean, neat and orderly.
- Responsible for operation and maintenance of the cash register, and handling of café income.
- Maintains professionalism when not assisting customers; avoids eating, sitting, reading, watching TV, or any other activities that are not work-related.
- Participate in cleaning of cooking area and other kitchen equipment and facilities.

Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in a similar role preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with cash registers.
