CAD Technologist

We are seeking a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist to join our Design Engineer Group. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation, transforming customer concepts into detailed product definitions that make a difference in national security. Each day will present exciting challenges and opportunities to showcase your creativity and technical expertise while contributing to critical initiatives in Nuclear Deterrence. Due to the nature of work, successful applicants will be required to work onsite.

Responsibilities

• Innovate and create by designing, modifying, and evaluating detailed complex component and system definitions through advanced design solutions.
• Design intricate three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems to bring concepts to life.
• Transform customer concepts into detailed product specifications, ensuring clarity and precision in the design process, and present designs to clients.
• Collaborate with clients and team members, including CAD Designers, Product Design Engineers, and R&D Mechanical Engineers, to integrate defined requirements into designs.
• Lead teams in the design of three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems.
• Harness advanced three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop innovative mechanical designs, perform mass property calculations, and conduct complex tolerance and interference analyses.
• Adapt to evolving requirements and work closely with R&D Engineers to translate conceptual ideas into practical solutions.
• Gather and analyze product performance data to drive continuous improvement in design and develop new methods and concepts.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
• Experience using CAD software for complex 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation and design solutions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Desired Qualifications

• Active DOE Q Clearance.
• Experience using PTC-Creo software for mechanical design of complex designs and large assemblies.
• Experience using AutoCAD software.
• Demonstrated ability in applying mechanical design principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements.
• Application of complex principles of tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) based on experience or training.
• Certification such as ASME GDTP Senior level.
• Experience using a product data management system to manage CAD files.
• Application of alternative/advanced manufacturing methods for mechanical hardware.
• Application of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
• Demonstrated successful teamwork, excellent communication skills (oral and written), and consistent demonstration of good behaviors.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
• Knowledge and understanding of the NW engineering systems and the NNSA product realization process.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment.
• Experience in a lead designer role.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop staff and develop effective working relationships with peers.
• Be a recognized technical expert in mechanical design, as evidenced by sharing expertise, being consulted for technical opinions, or solving complex mechanical design issues.
• Participate in corporate or industry-wide training, meetings, and/or conferences (e.g., PTC LiveWorks, Interoperability Conference) and share knowledge to improve Design Engineering.

Physical Demands

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, and if employed by Sub-contractor, you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. If you have a MedPED and are selected for an on-site interview at Sub-contractor, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
