CAD Survey Tech & QA
About the role
Exacta is one of the nation’s premier residential and commercial land surveying companies, providing services in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, DC, Virginia, Florida, and Texas. The company offers residential, commercial, and ALTA/NSPS boundary surveys with a commitment to accurate and timely delivery for real estate transactions involving buyers, sellers, title companies, lenders, attorneys, and real estate agents. Under the supervision of the Survey Drafting Manager, the CAD Residential Checker serves as a senior technical resource responsible for reviewing residential survey work, coaching and developing drafting staff, and coordinating with Professional Land Surveyors on complex survey and boundary matters. The position supports accurate, consistent, and timely survey preparation across internal and outsourced drafting teams.
Schedule
This role can be performed remotely with a preference for EST or CST time zones.
Responsibilities
- Review complex residential survey work prepared by internal drafters and third-party outsourcing partners for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with Exacta standards.
- Serve as a technical coach and mentor to drafting staff by providing clear, constructive feedback, explaining corrections and survey concepts, and helping team members develop the skills necessary to produce accurate and consistent work independently.
- Identify recurring drafting and technical issues and proactively coach team members to address root causes, reduce repeat errors, and improve overall quality and consistency.
- Provide real-time technical guidance to drafters on complex survey, boundary, record, and drafting issues, emphasizing instruction and development rather than simply correcting completed work.
- Coordinate with Professional Land Surveyors on complex survey and boundary matters, including research, survey calculations, record interpretation, technical review, and development of potential boundary resolutions for PLS review and approval.
- Act as a technical resource between drafting staff and the PLS team by resolving appropriate issues at the checker level, preparing complex files for efficient PLS review, and escalating matters requiring professional judgment.
- Provide technical support to field survey crews, including point coordinate files, field calculations, boundary-related information, and other information needed to facilitate completion of field survey work.
- Attend weekly performance meetings to review productivity, quality, turnaround times, and other key performance indicators; use performance trends to identify coaching and process-improvement opportunities.
Requirements
- Minimum of high school diploma/GED required; Associates / Technical Degree or higher preferred.
- 3+ years of successful land surveying drafting, checking, or survey technician experience; applied CAD experience.
- Strong working knowledge of residential survey preparation, CAD operations, survey calculations, record information, and boundary-related research.
- Able to communicate technical feedback clearly and professionally; demonstrated ability to coach others, solve problems, and support consistent business outcomes.
- Ability to prioritize complex reviews, balance workload demands, and support timely delivery while maintaining quality standards.
- Proficient in the independent application and use of job-related software/e-technology/cloud-based solutions.
