About the role
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer or CAD Technician to support automated fulfillment center and material handling system projects. This position is suitable for early-career engineers looking to develop their technical skills in conveyor design, 3D modeling, and industrial automation. You will execute mechanical design tasks under the guidance of senior engineers, produce deliverables, and build expertise in automated systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop layouts for automated material handling systems following established standards.
- Create detailed conveyor and equipment designs based on project requirements.
- Build 3D models and perform clash detection for assigned areas.
- Execute design tasks delegated by senior engineers with accuracy.
- Produce mechanical engineering deliverables using established templates and workflows.
- Generate 2D drawings for approval and installation.
- Create documentation such as equipment lists, manifests, and installation instructions.
- Perform calculations for throughput, motor power, belt pull, and structural loads.
- Conduct spatial analysis, clearance checks, and ergonomic reviews.
- Apply safety and regulatory standards to all designs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 1–2 years of relevant engineering, drafting, or strong internship experience is required.
- Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD drafting is mandatory.
- Strong experience with 3D AutoCAD is required for modeling, with 2D needed for installation drawings.
- Familiarity with Navisworks for viewing and 3D PDF review.
- Ability to support drafting, conveyor design, installation documentation, and manufacturing order preparation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE), specifically for parcel delivery or fulfillment systems.
- Internship or co-op experience in engineering, manufacturing, or construction.
- Exposure to logistics or industrial automation.
- Some project management exposure is beneficial.
- Proactive communicator who seeks clarification.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality.
