CAD MECHANICAL DESIGNER

About the Role

As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a key role in bringing custom displays and exhibits to life by creating engineering 3D models and documentation used for fabrication. You will develop and manage engineering data in accordance with Czarnowski CAD standards while working independently on complex projects. This role involves collaboration with project teams, fabricators, and external vendors to ensure designs are accurately translated into finished products. You will also support conceptual design, fabrication processes (including CNC production), and onsite installations, providing visibility throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and translate design deliverables into concise data sets and documents suitable for fabrication.
• Gather and coordinate data, including field surveys, show/venue regulations, material and equipment technical specifications, performance/lifespan, and client-specific requirements.
• Follow Czarnowski CAD guidelines for data storage, directory structure/naming conventions, and drawing layout standards.
• Design within constraints such as budget, timeline, fabrication capabilities, available materials, shipping methods, and setup capabilities.
• Communicate progress through the Czarnowski intranet (COMS system) at key milestones:
  • Control models/documents complete (33%)
  • Preliminary fabrication documents/assembly model (66%)
  • Final fabrication documents (100%)
• Develop setup documents and maintain up-to-date timekeeping.
• Support the Design Department during conceptual and developmental phases as required.
• Assist Estimating and Project Management teams in developing quotes.
• Support Installation teams with visual and procedural documentation.
• Adhere to all Czarnowski safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School diploma (required).
• Associate’s degree in Architectural, Mechanical, or CAD Technology.
• 2+ years of experience in the display and exhibit industry (design or architecture experience as a minimum).
• Prior cabinetry and metal fabrication experience (desired).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.
• Ability to analyze challenges from multiple perspectives to develop effective solutions.
• Comfortable tackling complex problems and adapting to changing requirements.

Skills

• Advanced competency with the latest version of AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
• Competency with parametric modeling programs (Inventor, SolidWorks).
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, scheduling software, and Adobe Acrobat (review and annotation).
