About the role

WSP USA Inc. is seeking a CAD Designer to work out of our Tampa, FL or Houston, TX office. The candidate will develop engineering drawing sets in coordination with engineers and other designers, focusing on linear pipelines for the Oil and Gas Industry (including Terminals).

Responsibilities

  • Develop design packages for pipelines and associated infrastructure as directed by the project engineer.
  • Prepare engineering plans, profiles, sections, and details for design, tender, construction, and as-built drawing sets.
  • Compile and/or model 3D surfaces representing engineering features such as graded terrain, waterways, wetlands, roads, and railroads.
  • Prepare conceptual plans and figures for proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and environmental staff to meet client design and drafting needs.
  • Produce maps from topographic data and survey field notes.
  • Develop and maintain base files for pipeline and facility designs.
  • Research and compile publicly available data (imagery, topography, parcel, existing utilities, etc.) and convert into Civil 3D CAD-compatible files.
  • Review survey data to identify missing or inconsistent information and format it according to design/drafting standards.
  • Ensure technical quality of developed designs.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of design drafting standards when directed by the Group Lead.
  • Follow applicable design/drafting standards throughout all tasks.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of field-related work experience using AutoCAD, Land Development and Civil Design, and/or Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge in the design of Oil and Gas pipelines or linear utility systems.
  • Advanced skills in core technical areas of related software applications.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong independent work ethic with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to CAD standards and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-year Certificate or Diploma from an accredited technical school or college in CADD/Engineering Technology.
  • Understanding of design criteria and 3D modeling applications.
  • Experience developing design packages for linear pipelines in the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify alternative solutions.
  • Ability to compile 3D models of structures, equipment, piping, and terrain.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and other ESRI products, CAD Worx, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Map, Raster Design, or AutoCAD Visual Basic for Applications.
