About the role
Northern Gear & Machining is looking for a skilled CAD Designer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys turning concepts into accurate, manufacturable designs and working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams in a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design Creation: Generate detailed 2D sketches and 3D models for parts, structures, or systems.
- Collaboration: Work with engineers, production, and project managers to finalize designs, review drawings, and solve technical issues.
- Technical Documentation: Create and revise drawings, models, and technical documentation.
- Revisions: Modify existing designs based on feedback, testing or site inspection data.
- Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years in high-volume precision metal manufacturing (preferred, but not required).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, GD&T.
- Proficiency in CAM software, ERP systems and Microsoft programs.
- Planning and ability to think ahead and plan.
- Problem analysis and problem resolution.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong team player.
Qualifications
Basic Job Duties:

- Experience with Mastercam or CAM programming is a plus.
