Cable Technician - Top Secret
About the role
The Cable Technician will install and document new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure, including conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber and all associated elements in the Pentagon, Mark Center & buildings within the NCR supported by DISA J6.
Responsibilities

- Secure and expertly apply the latest technologies to advance the mission as a Cable Technician with GDIT.
- Install, maintain and repair voice and data communications systems.
- Interpret cabling cutsheets, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Test, locate, install, and repair cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and perform routine maintenance.
- Verify work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information.
- Verify service by testing installed cabling, identify, correct, or escalate problems.
- Document network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
- Troubleshoot and repair outages; test network backup procedures; update documentation.
- Identify, track and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards.
- Dress, terminate and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.
- Follow DISA J6 and commercial best practice procedures, standards required for installation of cable racks, wiring of the racks and testing required during installation.
- Participate in special projects as required.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree and a minimum of 3 years' experience required.
- An additional 2 years of related technical experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Active Top Secret security clearance required.
- Familiarity with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
- Effective communication and customer support skills.
- Ability to work with power tools and ladders.
- Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors.
- Computer literate with basic Networking Skills.

Pay
The likely hourly rate for this position is between $34.74 - $47.00. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
