About the role

As a Cabin Upgrade Project Engineer within Airbus Customer Services, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering design and flawless project execution. This role is heavily focused on project lifecycle management, planning, and stakeholder coordination, with a strong technical foundation in cabin retrofits. You will define project scopes, manage subcontractors, mitigate risks, and translate highly technical aircraft modification data into actionable business and execution plans—ensuring all cabin retrofit solutions and Service Bulletins are delivered on time, within budget, and to customer expectations.

Our Engineers work on complex, highly engineered machines and are involved at all stages of the aircraft life cycle, from product development to manufacturing and direct support to airline customers. The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations, and services globally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance during the Offer Phase by coordinating Technical Offers and validating financial overviews.
  • Manage team interfaces during Service Bulletin/Engineering Order production with customers and supply chain, overseeing technical or financial adjustments.
  • Oversee risk management, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders, and finalizing deal closures including lessons learned.
  • Support the Customer in coordinating the implementation of retrofit solutions, including overseeing on-site activities and providing back-office technical assistance.
  • Support the engineering team during the embodiment phase for issues/queries impacting project deliveries and/or supply chain.
  • Develop cabin retrofit solutions from global architecture to detailed technical design.
  • Create retrofit engineering drawings with a focus on speed, quality, and cost.
  • Determine the kits needed to support the retrofit design.
  • Manage all stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of assigned engineering projects.
  • Manage subcontractors and associated cost and delivery.
  • Develop the aircraft certification plan and support the certification process as required.
  • Support onsite modification as required.
  • Resolve queries during and after work instruction and kit delivery.
  • Maintain a solid technical understanding of the aircraft certification plan development process.
  • Support the formal aircraft certification process to achieve airworthiness compliance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across Airbus Customer Services and global Line-Fit production organizations.
  • Interface directly with airline customers to manage and meet customer expectations.
  • Utilize project management frameworks to predict downstream impacts on stakeholders and make optimal decisions.
  • Develop innovative risk-mitigation approaches using data from varied sources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautic, Civil, or Electrical) with a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
  • Direct exposure to project or program engineering methodologies.
  • Proven ability to create, interpret, and review designs using industry-standard CAD tools (e.g., CATIA).
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Ability to build and maintain an internal network with colleagues globally.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organization skills.
  • General knowledge of the Service Bulletin production process, including the ability to read, interpret, and cross-reference SBs, Bills of Materials (BOM), and customer modification requirements.
  • Highly proficient in Google Workspace / Google Suite products for documentation and project tracking.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management to identify impacts on stakeholders and make optimal decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical Publications: Experience navigating and using industry-standard Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPC) and ATA Technical Manuals (AMM, SRM, etc.).
  • Regulatory Frameworks: Familiarity with FAA and/or EASA regulations regarding aircraft parts procurement, technical documentation, and product traceability.
  • Airline / MRO experience.
  • Aircraft Cabin-related experience.
  • Python or other programming language experience.
  • Practical airline, hangar, or MRO environment experience.
  • Specific experience related to Aircraft Cabin interiors or modifications.
  • Professional Project Management Certification (PMP).
  • Basic programming or coding experience.

Schedule

80% onsite, 20% remote.

Physical Requirements

  • Vision: Ability to see and read computer screens, electronic equipment, documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: Ability to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate personal computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines, and related office equipment, as well as some production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: Ability to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Ability to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: Ability to sit for long periods in meetings or while working on a computer.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: Ability to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Ability to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: Ability to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking: Ability to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
