About the role
The Cabin Engineer III applies thorough technical principles, theories, and concepts within cabin engineering to solve a wide range of complex problems. Operating under general direction, this role independently determines approaches to solutions, guides routine-to-moderate engineering challenges, and represents the organization in technical discussions with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Our Engineers work on complex, highly engineered machines and are involved at all stages of the aircraft life cycle, from product development to manufacturing and direct support to airline customers.
Working environment
The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations, and services globally.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in cabin engineering, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines.
- Develop imaginative, thorough, and practicable technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Maintain capability and progress toward obtaining Approved technical signatory authority for engineering deliverables.
- Independently create, review, and deliver high-quality technical documents and presentations without requiring direct guidance.
- Operate under general direction to independently determine and develop technical approaches to projects and solutions.
- Contribute directly to the successful completion of specific engineering programs and major projects.
- Regularly meet high-level project commitments and deadlines across both internal and external teams.
- Exercise sound judgment and technical rigor, recognizing that errors may result in serious program delays and considerable expenditures of resources.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on routine to moderately complex engineering problems.
- Interact frequently with internal departments, external staff, suppliers, and customers on critical engineering items.
- Represent the organization effectively in resolving technical issues and communicating solutions, status, and ideas across all stakeholder levels.
- Apply technical proficiency in Python (including libraries like Pandas) to automate complex engineering workflows, data analysis, and report generation.
- Leverage Google Workspace tools (including Apps Script) and AI tools (such as Google Gemini) to streamline project management, technical research, and team productivity.
- Utilize web automation tools (e.g., Selenium) to extract and process technical data from internal databases and supplier portals.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical).
- 6+ years in aircraft cabin interior design, stress/integration analysis, and certification.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Strong proficiency using Google G Suite.
- Willingness to learn and be proactive working with teams.
- Flexibility regarding the changing working environment.
- Ability to write reports, specifications, work statements, requirements, and other technical documents.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Detailed-oriented with excellent proofreading and writing skills.
- Ability to present information and answer questions related to produced documentation.
- Provide a clear communication link between vendors and the engineering team.
- Communicate frequently with other departments internally, externally, and internationally.
- CAD experience is essential with Catia V5.
- Strong capability in MS Office/Google Products.
- Ability to learn new tool sets as required.
- Ability to independently develop, communicate, and recommend changes to processes and procedures.
- Ability to direct and facilitate Problem Solving activities and track progress to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Ability to qualify for and achieve Approved technical signatory status within the designated timeframe.
- Expert proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software alongside working knowledge of scripting tools (Python, VBA, CAD macros).
- High-level oral, written, and presentation skills with proven ability to lead complex technical discussions with senior external stakeholders.
- Experience with Airbus cabin and cargo engineering.
- French, German, or Spanish language skills.
- Experience with PDM (TAKSY, PASS-SSI).
Travel
10% domestic and international travel required.
Schedule
Minimum 80% onsite and 20% remote.
Physical Requirements
- Vision: Daily ability to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens; read documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
- Hearing: Daily ability to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
- Speaking: Daily ability to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications.
- Equipment Operation: Daily ability to operate most office and personal electronic equipment (personal computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and electronic identification card for building entry).
- Carrying: Daily ability to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 10 lbs.
- Sitting/Standing/Walking: Daily ability to sit for long periods in meetings or working on a computer; stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor; and walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site. Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required.
