C.O.T.A. full time temporary

Join the Occupational Therapy Department on the Manhattan campus as a full-time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (C.O.T.A.). This role is based on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and involves weekend work and coverage needs.

About the role

The COTA provides specific occupational therapy treatment under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, following a written supervision plan. While the COTA may contribute to evaluations, independent evaluation or interpretation is generally not performed unless competency is demonstrated and appropriate supervision is provided. The role reports to the OT/Director of Rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out occupational therapy interventions according to the established plan of care.
• Assist residents in improving self-care, functional mobility, upper extremity function, cognition, strengthening, and safety awareness.
• Document treatment sessions, patient progress, and communication with the interdisciplinary team.
• Report changes in resident status to the supervising OT.
• Participate in care conferences and discharge planning as assigned.
• Provide therapeutic activities to improve resident/patient ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Train patients in the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices.
• Observe, document, and report patient progress and responses to treatment.
• Contribute to evaluations by gathering data, reporting observations, and administering assessments delegated by the OT.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment programs and safety.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, facility, and New York State regulations.
• Maintain patient safety and infection control standards.

Requirements

• Current New York State Occupational Therapy Assistant License/Authorization.
• NBCOT certification preferred.
• Experience in skilled nursing rehabilitation or long-term care preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare Part A and Part B documentation requirements.
• Understanding of Medicare documentation expectations, productivity standards, supervision requirements, and responsibilities related to PDPM and skilled documentation.
