About the role
The Wheelchair Agent is responsible for assisting passengers with mobility needs throughout the airport terminal in a safe, courteous, and professional manner. This role provides wheelchair transportation and customer support to ensure passengers receive timely assistance from check-in through boarding, connections, arrival, and baggage claim.
Responsibilities
- Assist passengers requiring wheelchair or mobility assistance throughout the airport
- Transport passengers safely between ticket counters, security checkpoints, gates, baggage claim, and connecting flights
- Assist passengers with boarding and deplaning aircraft when required
- Provide excellent customer service and professional communication to passengers and families
- Assist elderly passengers, individuals with disabilities, and travelers requiring special assistance
- Handle wheelchairs and mobility equipment safely and properly
- Coordinate with gate agents, airline staff, and airport personnel to ensure timely passenger assistance
- Respond promptly to wheelchair service requests and maintain efficient passenger flow
- Assist with light baggage handling when necessary
- Follow all airport safety procedures, airline policies, and TSA regulations
- Report operational concerns, passenger incidents, or equipment issues to supervisors promptly
- Maintain professionalism, patience, and sensitivity while assisting passengers
- Perform other duties as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
- Ability to remain patient, courteous, and professional at all times
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Must have reliable telephone and transportation
- Previous customer service, hospitality, healthcare, or airport experience
- Must be able to take verbal direction in English
- Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests
- Must pass a pre-employment background check
- Must meet necessary requirements to obtain a security-sensitive identification badge
- Must be in proper uniform or business attire as directed by company officials
- Identification badges must always be visible
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
Work Environment
- Airport terminals, gates, security checkpoints, and baggage claim areas
- Fast-paced environment with frequent passenger interaction
- Requires extensive walking throughout airport terminals
- Exposure to crowded and high-traffic passenger areas
- Ability to push passengers in wheelchairs for extended periods
- Ability to stand and walk continuously throughout shifts
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to assist passengers safely during boarding and deplaning operations
Schedule
8-hour shifts, 3 days a week. Must be able to work weekends.
Pay
$15/hour plus tips.
