Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Buyer/Supply Chain Manager to oversee purchasing, vendor management, inventory control, and overall supply chain performance of our welding and fabrication shop. This role plays a critical part in ensuring materials and services are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and delivered on time to support production and project schedules. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Review daily Purchase Order delivery log and check in material.
- Label drawings.
- Track and gather heat numbers and transfer to drawings.
- Build MTR (Material Test Report) package for outgoing shipments.
- Filer miscellaneous QC paperwork.
- Attend daily production meeting with Project Managers & Shop Leadership.
- Purchase raw materials for upcoming jobs and for inventory replenishment.
- Set up burn files in PTS systems.
- Maintain records on inventory of raw materials, buyouts and fabricated items.
- Identify and prioritize long lead time/critical path items.
- Determine which vendors are best suited to fulfill the project requirements based on price, lead time, proximity and other factors.
- Obtain quotes and issue purchase orders.
- Communicate with PTS and outside vendors as needed to help ensure the effective execution of the work.
- Review and approve vendor bills.
- Ensure invoiced amounts are correct and vendors furnish all required QC, insurance and other applicable backup documentation.
- Aid in preparing backup documentation and calculations necessary for invoicing T&M jobs.
- Ensure Procurement Standards and Procedures are followed, and files are organized.
- Understand the project budget and communicate any anticipated or actual cost overruns to the Project Management Group.
- Understand the strengths, weaknesses and capabilities of vendors.
- Locate and evaluate potential new vendors and ways to reduce costs or increase efficiency.
- Aid in developing or improving tank design standards and specifications.
- Develop and maintain Procurement systems and process files to foster teamwork, uniformity and transparency.
- Conduct root cause analysis and corrective action plans for vendor quality or delivery issues.
- Promote all aspects of Total Quality Management (TQM) program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or a related field
- Excellent planning skills and attention to detail
- Solid reading, writing, and communication skills
- Self-motivated problem solver
- Organized and analytical
- Team-player; eager to learn and improve
- Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
- Proficiency in Google Drive and Google Sheets
- ERP knowledge/experience
- Willingness to ask for help or delegate as needed
- Love of continuous improvement and problem solving
- Belief in: “There is always a better way to do something”
Status
- Full-time/Hourly (Overtime Non-Exempt)
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Included is an IT Allowance of $35 per month, plus a company laptop computer.
- Benefits: Competitive Benefits. Available on the 1st of the month after a 30-day waiting period from the hire date. PTS pays approximately 60% and employees pay 40% of medical benefits premiums. Employees pay 100% for all other voluntary benefits. Paid Time Off.
