Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Purchasing, the Buyer / Project Liaison role is responsible supporting our advanced purchasing, new model purchasing, and program management activities within the Purchasing Department. You will be responsible for sourcing and procuring materials and components for new product development, ensuring that all purchases meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements. Your expertise will contribute to the successful execution of projects and the overall efficiency of the supply chain.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure the best pricing, quality, and delivery schedules for new model purchases and program-related materials.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to understand project requirements and align purchasing strategies accordingly.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis to identify new suppliers, trends, and technologies that could enhance product quality and reduce costs.
- Cost Management: Develop and manage budgets for new model purchases, ensuring adherence to financial targets throughout the program lifecycle.
- Project Coordination: Act as the primary contact for purchasing activities related to specific programs, coordinating with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and components.
- Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks associated with supplier performance and market fluctuations, ensuring continuity of supply for ongoing and future projects.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities, contracts, and agreements, and prepare reports on purchasing metrics and project progress.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements within the purchasing function to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in sourcing and procurement.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the automotive type market
- Able to accomplish basic financial analysis, supplier selection, and approval
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to perform in high-stress, fast-paced environment
- Working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased

- Negotiation skills
Basic Education And Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in purchasing, materials, planning, or similar field
Preferred Experience
- Purchasing certifications preferred
