About the role
Responsible for the purchase and proper inventory rotation of all fresh meat and meat-related items for resale to members. Promote sales of these items to members and purchase them at the lowest possible price.
Responsibilities
- Place orders over the phone and/or directly to the vendor representative.
- Communicate with members over the phone taking orders, giving current prices, and negotiating truckload buys.
- Schedule receiving of meat with the warehouse and traffic departments to ensure proper quantities and freshness.
- Negotiate for the lowest possible prices and keep abreast of current market conditions and trends.
- Respond to and resolve any problems with member stores on meat packers.
- Review daily meat receiving, accounts payable vouchers, and supplier invoices through prompt for accuracy.
- Maintain current maintenance on the computer for all assigned items and pieces.
- Tour the coolers to check quality and rotation of assigned product.
- Review all special sales, A-Maps, E.B.A.’s, and pre-booked items.
- Operate the computer to create purchase orders and enter proper maintenance on all assigned items.
- Use basic math skills to calculate quantities needed and to figure gains and losses on price changes.
- Make buying decisions daily.
- Use good communication skills in dealing with members and suppliers.
- Operate machines such as calculators, copiers, fax machines, etc.
- Read and retain all pertinent information of products and markets.
Requirements
- Degree or experience equivalent; one to two years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
- Frequently required to stand and walk.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to extreme cold.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
