BUYER IV (R&D)
The Marvin Group is a strategic partner for global alternate mission equipment and sustainment, specializing in defense contracting for military aerospace and vehicles. Based in Southern California near Los Angeles International Airport, the group comprises Marvin Engineering (MEC), Marvin Test Solutions (MTS), and Marvin Land Systems (MLS), focusing on military alternate mission equipment, armament test equipment, and power/thermal management systems, respectively.
About the role
The Buyer IV (R&D) will manage complex product manufacturing suppliers supporting the War Fighter. Responsibilities include monitoring supplier performance, strategizing, negotiations, and interfacing with cross-functional teams to provide cost-effective, high-quality, and timely supply chain solutions. The role requires experience in machining, fabrication, finishing, and a strong understanding of military-level quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Purchase materials, supplies, and services at the most favorable terms for the organization.
- Qualify vendors, evaluate bids, and negotiate prices and terms for purchased goods and services.
- Track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and maintain a current database of vendor information.
- Check and guide the work of lower-level buyers as needed.
- Serve as a specialist on complex technical and business matters with highly independent work.
- Assume a team lead role for the work group when required.
- Develop and support comprehensive sourcing strategies in a team environment.
- Coordinate work processes and approvals with senior management and internal customers.
- Display commitment to the on-time delivery of quality products.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field (required).
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with the procurement of machined and fabricated components.
- Experience with purchasing in either Aerospace or Defense (required).
- Capable of understanding and interpreting mechanical drawings.
- DFAR/FAR experience.
- Experience managing suppliers to KPIs.
- Strong negotiation skills and longstanding relationships within the manufacturing community.
- Action-oriented with a record of achieving business goals.
- Strategic thinker utilizing creative and innovative problem-solving approaches.
- High personal and professional integrity.
- Self-starting, highly organized, and outgoing with excellent people skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with on-time delivery as a priority.
- Proficiency in computer software such as Word and Excel.
- ERP systems experience (required).
- Strong mathematical and English communication skills.
- Fluent communication skills in English (required).
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.
- Must meet export control compliance requirements; all applicants must be “U.S. persons” within the meaning of ITAR (U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing suppliers qualified in Determinant Manufacturing (highly desired).
- SAP experience (a plus).
Pay
Base salary range: $95,000 - $125,000, based on skills, education, and experience.
Schedule
This position is 100% onsite and requires 10% travel.
