About the role

UCT is a fast‑growing semiconductor company seeking a talented Buyer II in Austin, TX. The Buyer II is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and expediting materials from approved suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality compliance. This role supports new product introductions, drives cost‑reduction initiatives, and manages supplier performance through scorecards and strategic negotiations while collaborating across teams to optimize material costs and maintain procurement records.

Responsibilities

• Buy, source, and expedite materials and commodities from approved vendor lists both locally and overseas; expertise with NPI procurement preferred.
• Ensure on‑time delivery of materials from suppliers and meet quality requirements.
• Negotiate pricing and commercial terms with local and overseas suppliers.
• Execute cost‑reduction initiatives.
• Maintain, monitor, and provide feedback on supplier scorecard programs for cost, delivery, and quality.
• Work toward achieving KPI objectives such as inventory management, MRB, RVN, cost reduction, materials availability, and quality management.
• Support, execute, and provide input to improve supply‑chain initiatives and strategies.
• Continuously optimize MPV by reducing material costs and limiting unfavorable PPV.
• Understand suppliers, their capabilities, market trends, and technologies for assigned commodities.
• Collaborate with Materials Quote Analysts to quote new and existing materials.
• Frequently re‑quote and negotiate to capitalize on cost‑reduction opportunities.
• Make tactical buying decisions.
• Resolve invoice issues for payment approvals.
• Order, reschedule, and cancel material based on requisitions and MRP output.
• Maintain procurement records, documentation, and metrics.
• Follow up with logistics to receive materials in the warehouse.
• Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency with SAP or other ERP systems.
• Effective communication with internal and external customers, including local and international suppliers.
• Competence in operating a personal computer using a Windows‑based OS, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Strong problem‑solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Capability to handle standardized situations with minimal variables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, Business, Materials, or Industrial Engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience in purchasing or materials management.
• Knowledge of MRP systems, SAP or Oracle.
• Experience in a fast‑paced, preferably manufacturing, environment.
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
