About the role
Journey-level buyer responsible for a wide range of merchandise or categories. Holds a contracting officer code that binds AAFES through contractual obligations up to $500,000 per contract. Works under the general direction of a higher-level buyer.
Responsibilities
- Buys specific merchandise categories under the direction of a higher-level buyer.
- Collaborates with planner and replenisher/allocator to meet plan.
- Identifies and recommends new products and business opportunities.
- Negotiates product availability, specifications, distribution, delivery, and price.
- May participate in tabloid and promotion planning to align in-store and online merchandise assortment.
- Manages vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objectives.
- Summarizes and communicates information to store operations.
- Researches and resolves customer and supplier inquiries.
- Analyzes trends, sales data, and economic conditions to develop strategies, business plans, forecasts, and open-to-buy, increasing sales, margin, and profit through competitive pricing and exit strategies (regular, promo, clearance).
- May train or provide guidance to assistant buyers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Four years of corporate retail buying/planning, allocation, and inventory experience, or a Bachelor’s degree plus two years of the same experience.
- Solid background in corporate sales planning, negotiating, and financial reporting with the ability to drive sales results.
- Contracting Officer designation is required.
- A specified area of buying experience may be preferred by the hiring manager.
