Buyer II

About the role

The Buyer II is responsible for supplier interaction, sourcing and procuring all materials, bulks, tools, consumables, safety supplies, etc., in support of Operations. This position also oversees frame agreements with strategic suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values,” representing the Company with high moral standards and adhering to the “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
• Provide subject‑matter expertise to monitor and track commodity pricing levels specific to budgeted spend and understand the supplier and material industry.
• Monitor, communicate, and respond to changing market conditions and price trends to maximize leverage and minimize risk.
• Monitor new trends in purchasing and recommend ideas to management.
• Foster supplier relationships—from sourcing, developing, and vetting suppliers to monitoring performance—and leverage the Company’s OEM status to obtain OEM pricing.
• Assist in achieving financial targets and cost‑reduction initiatives, including savings targets.
• Ensure use of framework agreements and preferred‑supplier agreements.
• Lead and support proposal efforts by soliciting qualified bids from material suppliers; coordinate with field operations to assure appropriate receiving and material‑management timing.
• Process project Bills of Material, source, negotiate prices, place purchase orders, expedite delivery, and maintain good supplier relations while meeting production schedules.
• Interface between suppliers and internal departments to resolve issues, invoice problems, material‑specification questions, variances, etc.
• Ensure purchase orders list complete material/service specifications as required by Bills of Material, engineering drawings, AMLs, and other source documents.
• Maximize savings in all aspects of purchasing.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.
• Occasional overtime and willingness to travel as needed/required.

Qualifications

• 2‑year degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (preferred).
• 4+ years of experience in manufacturing purchasing, preferably in construction/industrial environments.
• Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M) (preferred).
• Strong working knowledge of purchasing practices, procedures, and industrial materials with an associated supplier base.
• Strong negotiation, decision‑making, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to read prints and pull materials from prints.
• Knowledge of API, ASME, and ASTM codes.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, demanding purchasing environment and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Practical problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Strong computer proficiency, including MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and material‑management software.
