Buyer II

About the role

This position is responsible for purchasing replenishment of components and finished goods of instruments and implants for assigned product lines. The Buyer II will also assist with the purchase of prototypes, pilot production, and full launch quantities for new product launches. The role ensures implants, instruments, and related components are procured through qualified sources and delivered within set schedules. The individual will execute procurement strategies, including supplier consolidation, kanban, VMI, and more, while assisting with supplier management and monitoring performance based on quality, delivery, and lead-time metrics.

Responsibilities

• Initiates and monitors open purchase orders to ensure timely receipt and to maintain inventory target levels.
• Assists in negotiating pricing and delivery, as well as supplier selection and management.
• Ensures consistent, high-level performance of subcontract suppliers to delivery schedules, commitment, and performance based on negotiated contracts.
• Develops and maintains strong working relationships with major suppliers to assure implementation and completion of the production plan.
• Supports development activities with direct purchases of raw materials, components, and instruments required for prototypes, pilot production, and initial launch requirements.
• Provides support for engineering change orders, non-conformances, and accounting/receiving discrepancies.
• Serves as a core team member for product launches, set builds, and other special projects as assigned.
• Assists with implementation of procurement strategies, including supplier consolidation, kanban, VMI programs, and identification of alternative procurement sources to ensure long-term, cost-effective supply.
• Leads purchasing-related projects with minimal supervision as assigned by management.
• Manages inventory levels, schedules, and availability of selected items to meet build and launch schedules.
• Provides liaison services between suppliers and various internal departments, including R&D, Quality, and Regulatory.
• Assists with the return-to-vendor (RTV) process and RTV reconciliation.
• Works with Accounts Payable on resolution of problem invoices or supplier billing disputes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proven procurement, project management, cost reduction, and process improvement skills.
• Working knowledge of MRP (Materials Requirement Planning) software.
• Detail-oriented with solid math skills.
• Proven negotiation skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with all internal and external levels.
• Self-directed, self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Drive cross-functional improvement projects from kickoff to completion.
• High degree of initiative and ownership.
• Strong analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with changing situations under stress.

• Computer literacy applied to scheduling and data management.
• Strong interpersonal skills to resolve conflicting interests and obtain cooperation.
• Proficiency in MS Office and other applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Visio) to support project work, inventory modeling, and effective management reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum undergraduate bachelor’s degree (BS/BA), preferably in a related field.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in a related field, preferably in a medical device environment.

Pay

Compensation depends upon candidate's qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000 annually.
