Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer requirements, forecast, and internal/external lead-times; align buy with demand to avoid excess inventory and unnecessary mill buys.
  • Review slow-moving and obsolete inventory and collaborate with Support Team to drive resolution.
  • Collaborate within Support Team and operations to develop and execute strategies to ensure customer requirements are met, inventory targets are maintained, and support of production efficiency.
  • Conduct weekly Inventory Management Report (IMR)/Material Requirements Planning (MRP) review for all accounts to ensure effective supply chain management.
  • Place/change purchase orders and set up new Base Items/Purchase Part Spec as needed.
  • After analyzing customer demand and approved vendors, examine profit margin and compare pricing to ensure maximum return.
  • Evaluate coil yields and scrap to optimize buy plans and purchasing decisions; collaborate with Operations to develop strategies for maximized yield and minimized scrap.
  • Review and gather information regarding status of Purchase Orders, finished goods, and options; collaborate within the Support Team to make buy decisions to meet customer requirements.
  • Communicate lead-times and any delays in expected material arrival; provide coverage options to meet customer requirements.
  • Expedite orders based on activity and customer needs when necessary; use resources to develop coverage plans when primary vendor fails.
  • Collaborate with Tech Services regarding new items or grade requirements; ensure that raw material meets customer specifications.
  • Serve as a back-up for the other Buyers, Inside Sales Representatives, and the Account Manager in the Support Team.
  • Work in the office and interact face-to-face with members of your Support Team to further collaboration and promote learning, training, development, growth, and productivity within the Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proactive with strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough general knowledge and understanding of customer service and inventory management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management and teammates.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and manage difficult situations.
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organization, problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Computer Skills: familiarity with Microsoft Suites and basic computer skills.
  • Excellent data entry skills required.

Qualifications

Prefer an Associate’s Degree in a related field with at least two years of sales, purchasing, or customer service experience in manufacturing. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

Working Conditions

This work is performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people.
