About the role
Pregis is seeking a Paper/MRP Buyer to manage the planning and purchasing of raw material inputs that enable our manufacturing operations to satisfy growing customer demand. In this role, you will forecast, analyze, and place purchase orders from vendors to ensure appropriate paper inventory levels. Candidates with expertise in the MM modules of SAP software will be prioritized.
This role reports directly to our Sr Materials Managers and collaborates closely with cross-functional departments across the business unit, without direct or indirect reporting into individual facilities.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and establish forecast material needs for a given period.
- Monitor site-level consumption and adjust order sizes as needs fluctuate.
- Oversee and perform all purchasing activities for paper to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing.
- Monitor and work with vendors to ensure committed delivery dates are met to support production.
- Identify bottlenecks in the supply-chain process and implement solutions to improve performance.
- Facilitate supplier discussions to improve material flow, support strategic projects, and achieve cost reduction objectives.
- Develop, analyze, and present sourcing data to assist leadership with savings initiatives and supplier performance improvements.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (production planning, operations, NPD) to source and procure goods and services for production and innovation.
- Engage with vendors to expedite orders when supplies are low.
- Manage working capital on materials and assist sites with inventory management goals.
- Collaborate with site-level management and planning teams to ensure requirements are fulfilled.
- Understand commodity markets and provide market trend recommendations to optimize conditions.
- Monitor, maintain, and update all ERP/MRP/SAP system parameters to align with business and supply chain goals.
- Establish and implement purchasing strategies to align with forecast variability, inventory constraints, and supply limitations.
- Collaborate with Corporate Procurement on pricing negotiation, RFQs, and vendor selection/award activities.
- Complete data analytics for non-paper category items as required.
- Interface with suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to navigate trade regulations and ensure cost-effective, continuous paper flow from overseas markets.
- Actively participate in supplier selection and performance reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field required.
- Certifications or additional education in Supply Chain (APICS, CPIM, CSCP, CPF) a plus.
- 2-5 years of Supply Chain experience with an emphasis in material planning.
- Proven track record of success in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels.
- Ability to manage projects or threads of projects and perform self-directed work.
- Effective problem-solving skills and experience with requirements gathering techniques.
Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various reports and documents.
- Ability to present issues clearly and concisely, generating accurate analysis with a strong understanding of cause and effect.
- In-depth knowledge of procurement and planning activities within SAP is strongly preferred.
- Proven data analytics experience.
- Advanced MS Office skills, particularly MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions or recommendations.
- Previous experience with procurement of paper or packaging materials a plus.
- Ability to adapt to change and modify approach as needed.
- Proficient in managing and maintaining MRP settings and modules.
Pay
The annualized base pay range for this role is estimated to be $70K to $80K, based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay may vary depending on performance, proficiency, and demonstration of required competencies.
