Buyer

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Procurement Buyer to join the local procurement team and support the implementation of Howmet’s procurement strategy and mission. This role is a key change-agent position accountable for results in assigned areas, with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement cost reduction activities using Howmet procurement tools and technology to support location, business unit, and corporate objectives.
• Support buy/supply/pay practices and administrative processes to drive optimization and automation.
• Assist with forecasting material and supplies consumption.
• Place purchase orders for MRO, tooling, and raw materials.
• Coordinate supplier delivery schedules to meet production needs.
• Monitor resource requirements to ensure schedule adherence and maintain minimum inventory to support production.
• Work with buyer/planners and operations staff to develop JIT stocking programs with suppliers.
• Interface with departments (Shipping, Processing, Engineering, Quality) to resolve delivery issues or rejection notices.
• Collaborate with production to address direct materials, outside processing, services, raw material quality, quantity verification, and delivery challenges.
• Develop sourcing strategies by analyzing the supply base, market conditions, and technology roadmaps.
• Identify potential suppliers, assess capabilities, and create sourcing strategies for stakeholders.
• Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement and take initiative to resolve purchasing issues.
• Support GPPM, quality, and aerospace standards while ensuring compliance.
• Adhere to Howmet EH&S, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Company Policies.
• Act as a self-starter, contributing to job content development.
• Perform additional tasks as needed to support manufacturing operations, customers, and suppliers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Windows, Excel, Word, and Access.
• Demonstrated commitment to employee involvement, participative management, and continuous improvement.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility required at hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
• This position is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), requiring U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).
