Responsibilities

  • Review engineering releases and categorize parts by type, material, and finish.
  • Determine in-house vs. outsourced production with the machine shop.
  • Prepare bid packages and obtain competitive quotes from vendors.
  • Evaluate quotes, award work, and create purchase orders in the ERP system.
  • Identify and manage long-lead and critical-path items.
  • Support urgent part requests and expedite internal and external production.
  • Care for secondary processes such as plating, heat treating, and coatings.
  • Maintain open orders, resolve delivery risks, and maintain project schedules.
  • Build vendor relationships and manage supplier performance.
  • Develop vendor scorecards and qualify new suppliers.
  • Provide procurement status updates to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate Epicor records and use Excel for tracking, analysis, and reporting.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of manufacturing purchasing, procurement, or expediting experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and CAD files.
  • Knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and common finishes.
  • ERP experience for purchasing, tracking, and reporting.
  • Strong vendor negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent organization and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience managing the full procurement cycle from sourcing through delivery.

Qualifications

  • Experience in custom equipment, industrial automation, or job-shop manufacturing.
  • Hands-on Epicor ERP experience.
  • Buyer/expeditor background with end-to-end procurement ownership.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar systems.
  • Experience with vendor scorecards and supplier performance programs.

Skills

Work Environment

This position is based in a cubicle office environment with standard business hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flex time is available within the core hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., allowing team members to work any 8-hour shift that fits within this window. Work is primarily computer-based, using ERP systems such as Epicor, engineering data management tools, and Microsoft Office applications to manage purchasing activities and communicate with internal teams and external vendors.

About the Role

The Buyer oversees the full procurement and sourcing cycle for manufactured parts, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery to support complex engineering and production projects. This role manages purchasing activities for sheet metal, machined components, weldments, and critical-path items, while coordinating closely with internal manufacturing, external vendors, and project management teams.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
