About the role
Rudolph & Sletten, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking to hire a Business Unit Controller to join our office in Menlo Park, CA.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership across the business unit for all aspects of accounting and controlling operations, lead and develop a high performing team within the finance organization.
- Manage the monthly closing process to assure the timely preparation of accurate financial information, in accordance with GAAP.
- Produce discussion and analysis commentary on changes in numbers and financial position.
- Oversight of compiling and reporting financial information to the parent entity throughout the financial close cycles.
- Oversee Business Unit cash and banking activities, including collections, disbursements, and cash forecasting.
- Review revenue recognition through work in place process and confirm information is supported by operational profit forecast.
- Establish and manage monthly monitoring of critical internal control activities.
- Ensure the internal control environment is strong and is compliant with public company requirements & practices (SOX compliant).
- Proactively manage financial risks and remediation in order to avoid significant audit issues.
- Primary leadership role in working with outside audit firms on annual & quarterly audits.
- Drive productivity throughout the finance function, with a focus on automating accounting activities, and leading productivity improvements throughout the finance organization.
- Maintain proficiency with regard to technical accounting considerations, including revenue recognition, accounting for unapproved change orders and claims, and other relevant GAAP standards.
- Provide critical financial and operational information to executive management and make actionable recommendations to improve financial results.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests.
Requirements
- BA degree in Finance or Accounting is required, CPA preferred but not required.
- 8+ years of progressive management experience in accounting and finance in the construction industry.
- Thorough understanding of the full construction industry revenue recognition process including WIP reporting and percentage of completion calculations.
- Construction operations experience preferred.
- Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment; is both strategic and tactical enough to push new initiatives forward.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels within the organization.
- Must be able to work under minimal supervision, be proactive and take initiative.
- Able to work in a complex fast-paced environment with many moving parts with frequently changing priorities, must be able to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
- Critical thinking and the capability to generate consistently accurate and useful reports, as well as enthusiasm for translating data into actionable insight.
- Strong attention to detail as well as an ability to achieve results through delegation.
- Can produce quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to identify gaps in work not of their own.
- Results oriented: setting goals and priorities that maximize the use of resources available to consistently deliver quality results.

Pay
The expected annual salary range for this job is $195,000 - $250,000 based on experience.
