SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct field inspections for non-compliant business operating without a valid business license.
- Issue notices of violation.
- Answer questions relating to business taxes.
- Investigate complaints and recommend appropriate action.
- Visit businesses to ensure valid or invalid Business Licenses.
- Check the list of delinquent accounts and ensure their settlement through personal visits, phone calls, and letters.
- Initiate the collections of past due Business Occupation Taxes.
- Review financial records to determine adequacy of taxes and fees paid.
- Collect taxes and penalties due.
- Absorb walk-in customers as needed.
- Maintain records and prepare reports regarding businesses operating within the City.
- Update business tax records using a networked personal computer.
- Inspect vending machines to assure compliance with business tax requirements.
- Conduct customer service functions in person, by telephone, and by mail.
- Provide information/assistance regarding department/division services, procedures, fees, or other issues.
- Respond to routine questions or complaints.
- Research problems/complaints and initiate problem resolution.
- Receive payments for various fees, fines, or services.
- Record transactions, post payments, and issue receipts.
- Balance cash drawers.
- Prepare revenues for deposit and forward as appropriate.
- Process and calculate business license applications and renewals.
- Balance and prepare daily deposits of business tax fees collected.
- Attend Court hearings for non-compliant businesses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
- Minimum education requirement: Associates or technical degree.
- Minimum experience requirement: One (1) year of experience.
- Required possession and maintenance of a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physical exertion requirements: Moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Tasks requiring abilities: Perception and discrimination of colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals; communication orally.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, or rude/irate customers.
