Business Tax Associate

About the role

McGuireWoods seeks an associate with at least three years of law firm tax experience to join its Business Tax Group. This is an opportunity to work with a nationally recognized transactional tax team on sophisticated domestic and cross-border business transactions for public and private companies, private equity funds, investment banks, family offices, fund sponsors, nonprofit organizations, and other leading market participants.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with partners whose practices span corporate, partnership, international, fund, nonprofit, and tax credit matters.
• Advising clients on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, buyouts, restructurings, joint ventures, private equity transactions, tax credit investments, fund formations, financings, and inbound and outbound international investments.
• Collaborate across practice groups to deliver practical, business-oriented advice on complex tax issues, draft and negotiate tax provisions, and prepare tax memoranda.

Requirements

• Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience as a tax associate in a law firm and be able to work in a high paced environment with multiple ongoing transactions.
• The associate will work with McGuireWoods’ transactional tax lawyers to assist clients with issues relating to the tax aspects of business transactions, such as advising clients on sophisticated transactions, including taxable and tax-free mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, tax credits, fund formations and inbound and outbound international investments.

Qualifications

• Excellent academic credentials, including an LL.M. in taxation, is strongly preferred.
• Willingness and desire to work with innovative technology platforms. Our attorneys leverage Harvey AI to accelerate research, streamline document drafting, and enhance analytical work, allowing associates to focus on higher-value strategic thinking and client engagement.

Benefits

• A competitive salary of $260,000 - $425,000.
