Business Systems Developer – P&C insurance • Remote • Contract

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance product requests and system incidents to determine feasibility, impact, and next steps.
• Develop functional specifications and document user stories and technical requirements.
• Conduct client interviews to capture business processes and design system solutions.
• Collaborate with Business Systems Architects to assess the feasibility of product changes.
• Develop code, tables and configure software that match designed approaches developed earlier in the software lifecycle.
• Perform unit testing and ensure software adheres to BMIC change management procedures.
• Design, document, and execute test cases, including automated and manual testing.
• Identify, document, and manage remediation of system incidents discovered during testing.
• Support delivery team activities, including planning, status reporting, and expectation management.
• Assist with troubleshooting, customer support, and validation of production fixes.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science required.
• At least 3‑5 years' experience with business support operations in a property and casualty insurance setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with legacy or mainframe technologies.

Skills

• Able to translate user stories and system specifications into technical specifications and test plans.
• Able to facilitate teams and lead decision‑making processes in a collaborative environment.
• Working knowledge of Agile processes.
• Basic understanding of Azure DevOps (ADO) or similar tools.
• Ability to communicate well and make effective presentations.
• Experience writing functional specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Understanding of Agile development.
