About the role

The Business Systems Analyst plays a critical role within Boise State University’s Division of Extended Studies, focusing on managing maintenance activities and enhancing automated systems to improve operational efficiency. This position is responsible for responding to campus community requests, developing strategies for system improvements, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance tasks. The role offers the possibility of remote work from approved locations, provided candidates reside in specified states and can work standard hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Mountain Time). The Business Systems Analyst acts as a liaison between technical and functional teams, translating complex business needs into clear technical requirements, and facilitating communication, training, and documentation to support system enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in software testing, review results, and recommend improvements to meet desired outcomes
  • Analyze new system functionalities, communicate updates, and provide user training
  • Review application modules and documentation to ensure compliance with standards and customer needs
  • Maintain development and production environments, assist in diagnosing issues, and support system troubleshooting
  • Create and execute data queries, collaborate with stakeholders to identify issues, and recommend solutions
  • Design and maintain project backlogs, prioritize enhancements and defect fixes, and facilitate informed decision-making
  • Serve as a functional representative during technical design discussions to ensure user-friendliness
  • Monitor system logs and user activity to identify errors and training gaps
  • Manage data integrity, including bulk data imports/exports and operational reporting
  • Draft communication materials and develop training resources for new system features
  • Assist users with routine issues, such as access problems and report generation
  • Conduct discovery sessions to document workflows and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the division’s operational goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, or related roles
  • Experience in product ownership, functional requirements gathering, and user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Proficiency with low-code/no-code platforms (e.g., Quickbase) or enterprise student systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Slate)
  • Strong facilitation skills for discovery sessions and business process documentation
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries
  • Knowledge of operating system environments and technical documentation development
  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and work environments
